Indonesian government officials will meet this week with the owners of a newly created registry to discuss listing Article 6.2 credits, Carbon Pulse has heard. The talks come only months after Indonesia launched its own national carbon registry. They raise questions about how private registries will fit alongside sovereign infrastructure in one of Asia’s largest potential ITMO supply markets.

According to Carbon Pulse, officials from the Indonesian government are due to meet this week with the owners of a recently established registry. The purpose is to discuss listing credits under Article 6.2. The registry is not named in the teaser. It may be the privately owned “ITMO Registry” that recently received credits transferred from the Clean Development Mechanism, but this is not confirmed.

Indonesia has recently overhauled its carbon market rules. Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025, issued in October 2025, explicitly recognises corresponding adjustments for international trading, covering Article 6.2 and 6.4 transactions. It requires all domestic and international carbon trades to be recorded in a dedicated national registry, the Sistem Registri Unit Karbon (SRUK). The regulation also allows carbon trading to go ahead before Indonesia meets its NDC targets, and it provides both corresponding-adjustment and non-adjusted trading routes depending on how the credits will be used.

The Ministry of Environment launched SRUK in July 2026 under Ministerial Regulation No. 10/2026. According to a ministry presentation, the registry integrates authorisation and corresponding adjustments into its operations to support Article 6.2 cooperation and the Article 6.4 mechanism. A forestry-sector regulation, MOF Reg 6/2026, sets out rules for generating, validating, registering and trading forestry credits domestically and internationally.

Signals to watch

  • National versus private registries: Indonesian law requires carbon trades to be recorded in SRUK. Any listing on a private registry would need to connect with the national system to avoid double counting. Watch whether the meeting leads to a formal interoperability arrangement, a pilot, or no agreement.
  • Large supply potential: Indonesia’s forests, peatlands, mangroves and energy transition give it one of the largest potential ITMO supplies in Asia. Clarity on which registries can hold authorised units will shape how quickly that supply reaches buyers such as Japan, Singapore, Korea and Norway.
  • Authorisation remains with the state: Listing on any registry does not make a credit an ITMO. Buyers should confirm that units carry Indonesian government authorisation and a recorded corresponding adjustment in SRUK and in Indonesia’s Article 6 reporting.
  • Regulatory stability concerns: International buyers and investors have called for stability in Indonesia’s carbon rules after years of changing policy. Engagement with private infrastructure providers should be read alongside the government’s ability to apply consistent, transparent procedures.
  • Precedent for other hosts: If Indonesia, a major host, works with private registries, other host governments may follow. That could speed up market access but adds fragmentation risk while the UNFCCC international registry is still being finalised.
