GENEVA, SWITZERLAND — 30 OCTOBER 2026
One week before COP31 starts, Article 6 Network, a Swiss-based, member-led non-profit, today soft-launched its website, article6.net. It is the first association dedicated solely to the Paris Agreement carbon market — the world's only globally compliant carbon market, built on host-country authorisation, corresponding adjustments and UN oversight.
The market is moving from rulebook to transactions. 130 countries have designated Article 6 Authorities and are ready to develop, issue and trade Article 6 carbon credits. The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body has adopted its first methodologies and approved the first issuances under the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM). The first large sovereign ITMO transactions are expected to close at COP31 with many large corporations and banks.
Yet no body speaks for Article 6 alone. Existing industry groups grew up around the voluntary carbon market or cover all emissions trading. Government initiatives serve states rather than market participants. Article 6 Network fills that gap for banks, investors, companies, developers and host governments. Its mission: make Article 6 the default carbon market for governments, investors and companies.
“The Paris Agreement carbon market is a new financial market, and it is being structured right now. Buyers, sellers, financiers and host governments need one place to learn the rules, shape the policy and find each other. From today, that place is article6.net. Together, today, we are building the market of tomorrow.” MICHAEL MATHRES · FOUNDER AND INTERIM PRESIDENT, ARTICLE 6 NETWORK
From today, visitors can explore the Network's mission, browse Article 6 Radar and register interest in membership at article6.net. Founding membership opens at the official launch at COP31.
Founding membership opens at the launch. The Network's next milestones are the Founding Members meeting in March 2027, the first Article 6 Summit and Global Survey in Bonn on 11 June 2027, and the 2027 edition of the report at COP32 in Ethiopia.
